Hello Chelonian lovers,
Please continue to plan ahead to keep your family and animals safe!
Emergency "go bags" for every family and pet member should be updated regularly. And locate them in a convenient easy to access place near your emergency exit.
Tortoises/Land Turtles:
Enclosures need to drain well to prevent drowning. Tortoises that have burrows need to be checked and removed if their burrows are filling with water, to prevent drowning! A few days in the garage won't hurt them!
Water turtles:
Monitor the pond water level so your turtles don't float away and check for sewage entering the pond.
Sewage can make your family members, your fur pets and your beloved Chelonians critically ill!
Stay vigilant with watching weather conditions and possible evacuations in your area. Know your community evacuation sites. Keep your cell phones fully charged.
In flat areas and properties next to storm drains, be sure you are aware of possible flooding/flash floods.
Properties next to hillsides, need to beware of mud and rock slides, and ground saturation behind retaining walls that don't have drainage outlets.
Retaining walls can tumble down if the ground behind them becomes saturated.
For years, I have worked with the Community Emergency Response Team/Ramona
(FEMA volunteer supervised by Cal Fire)
I have seen some tragic human, animal and environmental situations.
I urge all of you to take care of yourself, your pets and give a helping hand to your friends and neighbors as well! I recently, heard heart wrenching stories from some San Diego Storm victims that lost everything!
STAY SAFE AND AWARE !
Also, due to the extreme weather our speaker for this month's meeting will not be available. We hope to have an interesting speaker next month.
